A restaurant website — what guests look for, and what you think they look for

Most restaurant websites open with a big photo of the dining room and the words “welcome to our restaurant with a long tradition”.

A guest who opens the website at seven in the evening isn’t looking for tradition. They want the menu, the prices and the opening hours — and if they don’t find them within ten seconds, they go somewhere else.

The menu — the most important page

As text, not as an image. A scanned menu in a PDF can’t be read on a phone, can’t be searched, and Google doesn’t know what you serve. You are invisible to everyone searching for “kebapi in Štip”.

With prices. A menu without prices means the guest has to call to ask — and most won’t. They will go where the price is written.

Up to date. A dish that has been gone for six months but is still on the website creates disappointment before the guest even arrives.

Opening hours, visible at once

On the home page, not buried under “Contact”. And with holidays — a website that says “open until 11 pm” on Easter Day when you are closed brings people to a locked door.

The map and the phone

The phone number must be clickable — on a phone, a tap means a call. The address should link to a map, not just sit there as text.

It sounds minor, but those are the two most clicked things on any restaurant website.

Bookings

If you take bookings, provide a form — name, phone, date, time, number of guests. Nothing more.

The form works at two in the morning too, when nobody answers the phone. That is the difference.

Photos that help

Not of the whole dining room — of the food. And real photos, not stock ones. Guests want to see what they will get.

Three or four good photos are worth more than twenty average ones. And optimise them — a website that takes ten seconds to load on mobile data is a lost website.

A Google profile — maybe more important than the website

Most people find you through Google Maps, not through your website. A profile with accurate opening hours, photos and answered reviews brings in more guests than any page.

The website and the profile work together — the link from the profile to your menu is the most used link you will ever have.

We build websites tailored to specific industries — with what your customers are actually looking for.
